Bonus Options
To enhance the replay value of your RayStorm
CD, 'bonus options' will appear in the Configuration menu when you complete the
game in various modes. Completing the game in Arcade Mode will award you the
Stage Select (Arcade), and finishing in Extra Mode will open the Stage Select
(Extra). When both Stage Selects are enabled, they will condense to form a
single option and also turn on the "13 Ships Mode."
Stage Select (Arcade)
After completing the Arcade Mode in Combat Mode, enter the
"Options" menu and choose "Configuration." In addition to
the options already there, you will see "Stage Select (Arcade),"
which, when turned on, allows you to pick any single stage to play through in
Arcade Mode. It is important to note that though it does not appear on the
screen, the game is considered to be in Training Mode when the Extra Mode is
played with Stage Select (Arcade) turned on. The stage chosen will (presumably)
play at whatever difficulty was assigned to it in the Options-Difficulty Setting
menu. Thus, this is a way to play stages 5, 6, and 7 on an easy difficulty
setting, as they are not available in Training Mode. Stage 8, the final boss, is
not available through Stage Select.
Stage Select (Extra)
This mode is exactly the same as Stage Select (Arcade) except it is for the
Extra Mode. It is activated when the game is completed in Extra Mode in Combat
Mode. (yes, all these 'modes') Keep in mind that any game played in Arcade Mode
with Stage Select (Extra) turned on will be in Training Mode.
Stage Select
The Stage Select (Arcade) and Stage Select (Extra) options condense to form
this option when both are enabled.
13 Ships Mode
This option appears when both Stage Selects are enabled. 13 Ships Mode is
exactly like the name implies: you get 13 ships to play through the game with,
and no continues. Furthermore, the 13 ships form a 'fleet' which is outlined
below. Note that all eight stages can be played at *any* difficulty setting in
13 Ships Mode (thank goodness).
The 13 Ship Fleet
13 Ships Mode gives you each of the following in your fleet:
3 R-Gray 1's configured for Manual missile fire
3 R-Gray 1's configured for Auto missile fire
3 R-Gray 2's configured for Manual missile fire
3 R-Gray 2's configured for Auto missile fire
1 R-Gray 0 prototype
In the "13 Ships Mode Configuration" menu you can set the order that
your ships appear. I highly suggest that you place the Auto mode ships at the
end (to make the later stages easier) and the R-Gray 0 at the front for reasons
I'll outline below.
What's an R-Gray 0?
As far as I can tell, it's a ship that sucks hard. The R-Gray 0 seems to be
exactly like the R-Gray 1 with the following enhancements
-It is always configured for Manual missile fire
-It cannot use the Hyper-Laser Assault
-It cannot use the Special Attack
-It powers up its laser cannons at about half the rate of the R-Gray 1
-It is a funky greenish blue color
My only guess is that something extremely cool happens if you defeat the final
boss with this ship, but right now I put it as the first on the chopping block
in my fleet order. I've managed to make this suck bag last until the end of
Stage 4.
This is what's waiting for you. I've made it to one more feature after what's
outlined here: by beating 13 Ships / Extra Mode I got the 'accuracy tracker'
which sits at the left of the screen and keeps you constantly updated on your
cumulative accuracy ratings for the stage. Useful in helping you find where
you're missing targets.
