Breath of Fire 4

Escape Easily
To escape easily, in battle, Hold R1 and Press X. Hold these 2 buttons until you run away. It doesn't really work every time, but try it until you escape.
(NOTE: If it is a strong enemy that is hard to fight (I'm not talking about bosses) it might not work.)

Thought You Were Done?
After you beat the game save the game (it lets you) then go to the abandoned village (where all the little god invokers ran before getting slaughtered) you'll meet up with Rei and Teepo from BoF III! Teepo will give you a "Rusty Sword" which sucks until you get 1000 kills with it, a large chore. It powers up then. And you'll also come by groups of 6 very high hp - low defense monsters that don't attack, so you can just use combos on them in the abandoned village. I got up to 48 hits and something like 60,000 damage using this combo: Tiger Fist-Ryu Primus-Ershin then a Super Combo from Cray. Tiger Fist and Super Combo come from masters. Don't bother killing the treans or trunks (monsters) they don't' give you much exp or zenny.

Easy Exp
Get about 6 fairies searching S. Hesperia until they/you have 2 Ivory Dice. Then go into Fou Lou's castle and wander around near the room with all the vases and stone pillars and other religious looking stuff. You'll come by a monster that when you hit it (if you don't kill it) it becomes more powerful. Hit it (without killing it) until its regaining around 6000 life a turn. Then have Ryu become Kaiser the same turn you use the 2 ivory dice on the monster. The next turn use your Best attacks and Kaiser breath (of course) and he'll die. I've gotten up to 85,000 exp from this. The longer you can last without killing the monster the better.

2 "Ultimate" Fishing Lures
Go to Rei and Teepo in the abandoned village after beating the game and by the "King Frog" or make an items shop in the fairy village using a "lazy" fairy. The lazy fairy will have horrible items up until the last one which will be a "spoon" both of the lures are defined as "attracts any and all kinds of fish"...very handy.

Lotsa Aurum
Go to Wyndia and go into the big mansion then talk to the butler. He'll ask for silverware. You can find the silverware in the following places
Spoon - Lazy Fairy shop
Fork - In the Cove with the wrecked ship the large crap monsters drop them
Straw - Rei and Teepo shop, or the crooked business man will give you one for helping out with the crates, vases/boxes.
Chopsticks - Send fairies to Wyndia searching, Rei and Teepo shop

The butler will give you aurum that ranges from 1 to 16 aurum for these items

Looking for a Challenge:
My fairies have mentioned a monster named "Ride" but I haven't been able to find him. I suspect he's something like the arch mage from BoF III, don't bother fighting him unless you are a bad, bad mother.

Glass Dragon
Go to the plains (hate those things) and go to the big rock, you should see a glowing bird, follow it to the grass dragon. If the birds not there wander around looking for it. It moves around supposedly.

Rock Dragon
There's a guy in the town where you have to move the blocks all over the water, talk to him and say that dragons look like rocks and grass. He'll tell you about an old quarry. Go there for the rock dragon.

Have a Mudslide..."Hiccup"
Go to the area where you saw the see-through worm like dragon and he'll be there again. He gives you a mudslide

Easy money, method 1:
Simply go to one off the apple trees and stock up 99 off them, then go to the nearest shop and sell them for 10Z each witch makes 990Z! in the start of the game this is a lot but later on it isn't worth the effort anymore.

Easy money, method 2:
Go to the island south of Lyp, there is a Moza plant there which you can cut Moza Grass off, again, stock up till you have 99 and sell them for 50Z each, that makes about 5000Z!

To Find Rider Toughest Monster
Go to Mutko. After passing through the Tomb, enter Mutko from the Southside and enter the cave in the upper left corner. Have Eshrin head butt the crack in the wall. Enter the opening. Go through the next three rooms. You should then run in to a treasure chest and then a dead end. You can find Dragon Tear in the chest, And Rider. He has ABOUT 400,000 HP! To make things worse, (and yes, they do get worse) he regenerates half of it each round! He can also cast some heavy-hitters, like Disaster and Primus. Also, if you use Pilfer to steal a very valuable item from him: King's Armor, which has Def100.

Location of gems

Water Gem: Found by Fou-Lu in sanctum, at the beginning of chapter3
Fire Gem: Found by Ryu in Mt.giga, when you fist enter the Shikk region in chapter3
Earth Gem: Found by Ryu in Saldine flats, when you are crossing from Pabpab to the western continent
Flawed Gem: Found by Ryu in en jhou, in the very depths of the temple. Accessible after reaching Chiqua.
Wind Gem: Found by Ryu in burnt forest, to the west of the emperor's tomb. Once you can go there with Ryu, go into the "?"map where Fou-Lu was knocked off the bridge. Go up the side of the mountain to the area where the forest was burnt, and look for the Wind Gem in a side path on the far end of the screen.

Practice combos
Return to the hidden village near Chek after the battle. You should encounter monsters that have high HP and regenerative abilities. Fight six at a time to practice your combos and to achieve very high scores.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away
When looking for the mayor in the woods, apples are used as the lure to flush the creature out. Ershin's personal action can head butt the apple tree and an apple will drop down. The apple can be used as a great healing item for early in the game, restoring 100 HP, so stock up to effectively keep your HP high.

Distract Maman
Stock up on the apples and head through the forest to find the mayor. You will have to battle Maman at this location. Use an apple to distract it for a turn. With enough apples you can crush the Maman without being attacked by it throughout the entirety of the battle.

Masters Look at the information below to find out how to acquire the corresponding master:

Abbess -- Talk to her in the Village of Chek after talking to all the dragons in their physical forms.
Bunyan -- Get the ability to apprentice with all the other eleven Masters. Then, find Bunyan by going to the question mark spot above the Highway and go through a secret passageway mid-way through the mountain range. Go up to his hut and talk to him.
Gyorim -- After getting over 3,000 points in fishing, talk to the fishing frog in Lyp.
Kahn -- After defeating him for the third time you can find him on the upper west continent in a question mark spot near the flowing tides.
Kryrik -- After the sea voyage event, return to Shikk and talk to him. He will apprentice you only if you have gotten 25 or more hits in a combo. Practicing in Chek is recommended.
Lyta -- After the Sea Voyage, talk to Sister Lyta in the orphanage in Synesta. You must have already learned Ward for her to apprentice you.
Marlok -- Buy the "treasure" from the frog in Sarai for 500 Zenny. Trade it around from city to city until you get a Tin Ball or better. Then, talk to Marlok in Synesta after finishing the sandflier event.
Momo -- Just talk to her in the windmill in Wyndia
Njomo -- After working with the Faerie Village after awhile, go to the question mark spot with the house in it. Talk to the fairy upstairs.
Rwolf -- Just talk to him near the entrance of Kurok.
Stoll -- Pay him all your Zenny in the Bandits Hideout after the Marlok events.
Una -- After beating up Kahn for the second time, talk to her in Worent.

Stealing from the populace
Use the personal action of Ershin, Ursula, or Ryu on NPCs in the towns. Sometimes you will get some zenny out of them

124 Combo Hit:
The 124 Hit Combo was achieved by making ALL faeries troops, and then using Megaphone, FaerieAttack, and FaerieCharge.

Hint
Combo Spells Combos are new to BOF and kind of hard to get the hang of. Here's some Help 
-- Fire + Wind Wind + Water Water + Earth Earth + Fire.
Also, if you cast two of the same types of spells (like Wild Swing, Double Blow and Triple Blow) and it will multiply Wild SWing-1 hit 2xBlow-4 hits (second hit in series) 3xBlow-9 hits (third hit in series). This Should Really help you w/ Rwolf and Krylic.

Get Zenny
Using Ryu's sword swing keep hitting the npc's and eventually they will give you some zenny.

Helping Out the Thieves
Here's a tip, for all you thieves out there. I know how hard stealing can be. So that's when I came up with a bright little idea. Charm, charm raises the chances of an item to be dropped at the end of the battle. Pilfer & steal, the stealing rate depends on the chances of the item being dropped at the end of the battle. So, use charm then steal or pilfer. Try it on Fou-lu & his dragon forms you'll get a dragon tear, ROYAL ARMOR & ROYAL SWORD.

Healing with Apples
When you go into the woods to find the mayor, you have to use "apples" to lure out an animal. If you run out, find the tree that the man told you about where you can find more. Use Ershil's personal action and head butt the tree. An apple will drop down. The apple is a great healing item for early in the game, healing 100 HP. This may not seem like much, but if many apples, they work well. Stock up to get a full 99.

Alternate Ending
At the end of the game, answer all of Fou-Lu's questions "Maybe so...". You will be merged with Fou-Lu and will play as the Infinity Dragon (Fou-Lu and Ryu God form). Then, just wipe out your ex-partners to get the ending.

Finding Rider:
Use the following steps to find Rider, the game's toughest monster. Go to Mutko. After passing through the Tomb, enter Mutko from the south side. Then, enter the cave in the upper left corner. Have Eshrin headbutt the crack in the wall. Enter the opening. Go through the next three rooms. You should find a treasure chest and then a dead end. You can find Dragon Tear in the chest, as well as Rider. He has about 400,000 HP. To make things worse, he regenerates half of it each round. He can also cast some dangerous attacks, such as Disaster and Primus. Use Pilfer to steal a very valuable item from him -- King's Armor, which has Def 100.

Defeating Maman:
In the woods where you find the mayor is a tree full of apples. Hit it with Ershin and stock up on apples. Head through the forest to where you find the mayor. You have to fight Maman at this location. Use an apple to distract it for a turn. If you have enough, the Maman will not attack during the entire battle.

Defeating Fou-Lu:
When you fight Fou-Lu alone as Ryu at the end of the game, just transform into Kaiser and leave it to him. If he dies, transform into another dragon or attack him by healing yourself. Fou-Lu will not transform into Tyrant or Astral or any other dragon-forms that he has
